It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned chef or a home cook just learning your way around the kitchen: Few cooking essentials are as versatile as the Dutch oven. I’m a big fan of the type of one-pot meals this cookware can churn out (the fewer dishes to clean up the better!), and as such, it's currently on top of my wish list. To be honest, it’s been there for awhile, however, because this timeless piece doesn’t typically come cheap—especially if you’re looking for one that’s high-quality enough to check all of the cooking performance boxes. Luckily for me—and you!—there's a major sale happening right now on a tall version of our all-time favorite Staub Dutch oven, which means there's sure to be a lot of stews, casseroles, soups and fried chicken wings in our future.

Staub’s 5-quart tall cocotte, which normally retails between $486 to $514, is on sale right now for $199.96 in Cherry and Matte Black. That’s a savings of nearly $300, or 60%! You can also choose shop hues Marin, Graphite and Grenadine for $219.96.
If you’re wondering if they're worth the splurge, the answer is still a resounding "YES." In fact, when we tested the best Dutch ovens, Staub came out on top with its 5.5-quart cocotte model ($259.95). Not only did it its competitors in every cooking test we put it through, it also received highest marks for how well it’s built—the shape allowed it to fit much easier on the stovetop and pantry than its famous French competitor, Le Creuset—and how easy it is to clean.
According to our expert cooking writer, Valerie Li Stack, this sale model, which measures 7.5-inches high with the lid by to 11.75-inches long to the 5.5-quart's 6.57 inches high and 12.57-inches long, “[It] may be good for stoves that are [even] narrower.” That means if you've got a smaller stove or your stovetop is often crowded with multiple pans going at once, this could be an even better option for you than the one we loved in testing.
We did notice that Staub’s cocotte is slightly heavier than some of the others we tested, but we think that’s a fair trade for the high quality.
