Strictly Come Dancing viewers have praised Ugo Monye for his dedication to performing during tonight's (September 25) debut live show, after revealing he had sadly attended his father's funeral the same morning.

Ugo confirmed earlier this month that his father had passed away from prostate cancer, and stated following his performance of a high-energy samba with his partner Oti Mabuse tonight that, though it was a sad day, he felt it was a way to help him celebrate his father's life.

Speaking to host Claudia Winkleman following his performance, Ugo revealed that he wanted to dedicate the dance to his late father.

"We had his funeral this morning. During the funeral we spoke about today being a day of celebration and that's exactly how today felt. There's no better way of celebrating him than dancing, so tonight feels really special."

Viewers were quick to share their praise on social media, with one Twitter user stating: "All the respect to Ugo Monye for performing on Strictly after his dad's funeral in the morning", with their sentiments being reflected by another: "[Oh my goodness] Ugo, his dad's funeral was this morning. Fair play to him."

Another praised his dedication to the show, writing: "Imagine having to do that after your father's funeral, what dedication", whilst another simply shared: "Respect to Ugo".

"What you have had to do today and still show up and perform is amazing. Hats off to you sir [clapping hands emoji]," was the respectful praise given by someone else, alongside: "He's just said his final goodbyes to his dad and he's out here smashing Strictly. Fair play."

"So much respect for you right now. I don't know how you could focus on doing anything on the day of your father's funeral, never mind being as good and entertaining as you were. You and Oti Mabuse deserve much praise," was the final kind message from another viewer.

Strictly Come Dancing 2021's first live show aired tonight (Saturday, September 25) on BBC One.
