Stocks soar as financials, tech lead the way

Stocks soaring as financials lead the way. With investors coming to grips with a rate hike this summer, is the market finally ready to take off? Plus - Uber and Toyota are teaming up - what does this mean for Lyft, and the other automakers? And - Amazin' Amazon is up big since bottoming out in February - can the online behemoth keep up the pace? Catch The Final Round at 4p ET with Jen Rogers and markets correspondent Nicole Sinclair.

Winners and losers

Stocks missing out on the rally today include the aforementioned Best Buy following its earnings report, Newmont Mining sliding as gold prices take a hit, and DSW - the discount shoe retailer getting kicked to the curb after a profit and revenue miss, and full year guidance that missed the mark.

Stocks pushing higher today include GoPro following its deal with Red Bull, Toll Brothers soaring following strong sales of luxury homes, and Netflix - the new king in media jumping after it announced it will be the exclusive home to streaming Disney content - which includes Marvel, Pixar, and possibly the Star Wars franchise.

Why oil supply and productivity are not the same thing

Oil prices marched higher to $48.71 today as investors expect a drawdown in US oil inventories. But will the production downtrend continue? Yahoo Finance's Justine Underhill has more at the charts.

Amazin' Amazon

As the retail landscape shifts under changing consumer habits, one company poised to dominate is of course Amazon. In fact the online retailer's shares are up a whopping 40% since hitting lows back in February. Joining us now for more on the Amazon phenomenon is Yahoo Finance's Dan Roberts.

Looking ahead

  • We'll get a crucial report for crude with the E-I-A's oil inventory report. Last week we saw another build of 1.3 million barrels.

  • Earnings season winds down with a few more big reports from Tiffany, Hewlett Packard, Express, and studio Lionsgate.

  • Finally - marking the 400th anniversary of his death, on the auction block tomorrow at Christie's is William Shakespeare's First Folio, which is the first collected edition of his plays. But get your checkbooks out, as the folio - considered the most important literary publication in the English language - could fetch around $1.75 million dollars.
