Stocks mixed as Dow hits another record

Thanksgiving is almost here, and traders – they’re thankful for the Dow blue chips hitting new highs – again. Catch The Final Round at 4p ET with Justine Underhill and Yahoo Finance Editor-in-Chief Andy Serwer.

Winners and losers

Stocks slipping ahead of the Thanksgiving break include HP Inc as the computer and printer-maker said the PC market continues to be tough, (FS) Urban Outfitters as the retailer reported both a top and bottom line miss, and Eli Lilly – take a look at this – shares tumbling after the company’s experimental Alzheimer’s drug failed to meet its phase 3 clinical trial goals. Lilly said it will abandon development of the drug.

Stocks getting a boost today include GameStop as the video game retailer reported a jump in its hardware and collectibles revenue, Veeva Systems as the cloud software firm reported strong current quarter guidance, and Deere – shares of the heavy equipment maker pulling higher after the company reported quarterly profit that was more than double estimates, and said 2016 was one of its 10 best years, despite a difficult market.

Black Friday deals

It’s that time of year, when families get together… to wait in line for doorbuster deals. We’re talking about Black Friday of course, and here to tell us about the implications for big brands and retailers is Yahoo Finance tech editor Dan Howley.

Looking ahead

  • It will be a shortened trading day but we will get some economic data, including international trade. Analysts are expecting the trade deficit to grow to $59.7 billion.

  • Later on we’ll get PMI’s services sector index for November. The prior month’s reading registered 54.8.

  • Finally, at 1pm we’ll get the the Baker-Hughes rig count of oil and gas rigs in the U-S. Last week we saw the oil rig count jump to 471, the highest level since February.
