The aluminum manufacturer has been facing several challenges in the past few years thanks to a sluggish global economy and weakness in the industrial sector since the recession in 2008. The company has had to bear with weak aluminum prices as well.’

However, US automobile and commercial airplane sales have picked up of late and Alcoa can benefit even further if the construction industry picks up.

Alcoa had posted net earnings of $94 million in the year-ago quarter. Its adjusted earnings excluding restructuring costs and other items had been 10 cents a share on $6.01 billion in revenue.

The Street expects the aluminum behemoth to report adjusted EPS of 8 cents on revenue of $5.91 billion.

American International Group Inc(NYSE:AIG - News) shares gained 0.65% and closed at $38.87. Analysts at Barclays Capital boosted their price target on shares of AIG from $33.00 to $36.00 in a research report issued to clients and investors on April 2. The firm currently has an “equal weight” rating on the stock.

Additionally, the company, on April 4, announced that two new Director nominees, William G. Jurgensen, former Chief Executive Officer of Nationwide Insurance, and Theresa M. Stone, Former Executive Vice President and Treasurer of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and former Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Jefferson-Pilot Corporation, will stand for election with 11 of the current 12 members of the AIG Board at the AIG 2013 Annual Meeting of Shareholders scheduled for May 15, 2013.
