Steve Martin Finally Sells Caribbean Paradise on St. Barts After Big Price Cuts

image

Comedian Steve Martin just sold his Caribbean hilltop villa on the island of St. Barts, and this thing is no joke.

Centered on a courtyard, the property has four bedrooms and 3,000 square feet of living space, with panoramic vistas of clear blue water in the bay of St. Jean.

Villa au Soleil (Villa in the Sun) lords over the island with multiple terraces to take in the sweeping views of St. Martin and Anguilla.

Martin first listed the property about two years ago at about $11.4 million. After price cuts, he was most recently asking about $7.8 million. The ultimate sale price is undisclosed.

The villa had been Martin’s frequent getaway since the winter of 2007-08, when he first rented it. He bought it “turnkey,” furnishings included, the following spring, and soon began offering it as a $28,000-a-week rental, the Wall Street Journal reported at the time. His purchase price was undisclosed, but it had been listed at $9 million.

“St. Barts is one of my favorite places in the world,” Martin told the Telegraph when he put the house up for sale in 2013. “Myself and my family have had a fantastic few years at the villa. The views are second to none, and the sun deck, terraces and swimming pool have been a great retreat to come and relax between filming. We will be sad to say goodbye.“

He was a familiar presence on the island – bodyboarding at Saline Beach, shopping and dining in the capital, and playing host to buddies like Martin Short – his listing agent told the Telegraph.

The home is quite open, both in its floor plan and its extensive indoor-outdoor space.

The vaulted main living space includes a family room, living room and dining room, all painted a sunny yellow. From certain angles, you can see right through the room.

Christie’s International Real Estate/Sibarth Real Estate handled the sale, both to Martin in 2007 and to its brand-new owners – a Swiss couple, according to the Wall Street Journal.
