Through the partnership, mobile customers who subscribe to the carrier’s Unlimited&More Premium data plan can select Spotify Premium as one if the entertainment perks included in their package plan. Other choices are Pandora Premium (SIRI), Cinemax, HBO, Starz, Showtime, or VRV, a streaming platform that features anime and gaming content.
Spotify recently reported fewer than expected additional Premium subscribers. The total number of monthly users grew to 232 million in Q2, with 108 million of those being users who pay to use the service. The platform was expecting to add between 107 million and 110 million Premium users.
“Our goal is to perform at roughly the 70th percentile of our guidance range and we missed on subs. That’s on us,” Spotify said in a press release. “The good news is that the shortfall was execution related, rather than softness in the business, and we expect to make up the lost ground before year-end."
Of the streaming service’s $1.86 billion Q2 revenue, $1.67 billion came from its Premium users.
AT&T customers who are already Spotify Premium subscribers will be able to keep their current account by linking the two through AT&T’s website. Some of the carrier’s customers will also be eligible to sign up for a six-month free trial of Spotify Premium
