Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh and her husband, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, attended the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace on Monday. The couple attended on behalf of King Charles III, who is undergoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer.

For the occasion, the Duchess of Edinburgh fashioned a simple look evocative of the spring season with a few high-fashion elements. Sophie wore a double-breasted brushed wool coat in sand white by Max Mara. Beneath her coat, the duchess wore a knit maxi dress in light blue by Roland Mouret.
To complete her ensemble, the Duchess of Edinburgh wore a pair of blush pink pointed-toe pumps by Prada. She also carried a Strathberry shoulder bag. Sophie’s hair was styled in a low bun with a few wisps of hair to frame her face. She accessorized with a pair of stud earrings and a delicate necklace.
Roland Mouret has quickly become a favorite designer for members of the British royal family, particularly Kate Middleton. The Princess of Wales donned a suit by the fashion brand during her Streets of Growth visit in September 2023. On another official occasion, Kate wore a Roland Mouret frock to the Wimbledon final in July 2023.
More recently, Mouret is toying with maximalism, as seen in the designs from his spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection. Opting for a different take on occasion dressing, Mouret’s designs focused on jumpsuits, shift dresses, two-piece sets and long and sleek dresses. “It’s a category that could be a bit conservative, I wanted to give it a stronger identity,” he said in a preview.
It’s a contrast to Mouret’s designs from his spring 2023 ready-to-wear collection, codesigned by Han Chong, the founder and owner of London contemporary brand Self-Portrait. At Paris Fashion Week in September 2022, Mouret’s collection featured sheath dresses in mini and maxi lengths, with wide set straps, tiny cap sleeves, cutout bra tops or folded necklines. “I lost everything this year and from doing that, I learned what I owned — fit and a relationship between the outfit and the woman when she wears it,” Mouret said at the time.
