Believe it or not, you don't have to book an appointment at your local salon or dermatologist's office to get rid of unwanted peach fuzz and facial hair. For quick touchups like these, all you need is to dermaplane.

Dermaplaning is a hair removal option and means of physical exfoliation that entails "using a fine razor to remove or shave fine hairs—a.k.a., peach fuzz, which are scientifically known as vellus hairs—and the top-most layers of skin" to make way for soft, smooth skin, says Dr. Farah Moustafa, a board-certified dermatologist and the director of laser and cosmetics at Tufts Medical Center.

Besides getting rid of those pesky hairs and giving the complexion a smooth finish, Moustafa explains that dermaplaning offers the benefit of making "a nice canvas for makeup and can help skincare products with active ingredients absorb more readily."

When dermaplaning at home, Moustafa says there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure to wield the razor "in the direction of hair growth to avoid excessive irritation." You should also hold skin taut and make "short, feather-like strokes in the direction of hair growth" to remove the hair.

To ensure that skin is primed for exfoliation, Moustafa recommends washing your face beforehand in order to get rid of any excess dirt, oil or makeup. Once you're done cleansing, make sure your skin is completely dry for best results, she says.

Now that you've gotten the lowdown on dermaplaning, we've compiled a list of six of the best dermaplane razors for an at-home shave.

A smooth complexion is only a few gentle swipes away with the Sephora Collection Metal Facial Razor—at least, that's what the brand claims. The razor is designed with an ergonomic handle and a finger divot that makes the facial hair removal process easier. It also comes with three replaceable blades for future use. This tool—and we assume all dermaplane razors—is ideal for normal, combination, dry and oily skin types, according to Sephora.

"Awesome razor," one Sephora reviewer exclaims. "It took a long time for me to decide whether to use razors on my face or not, but the result is amazing. My skin has never felt so smooth."

Tweezerman's take on an at-home dermaplaning tool promises to provide "easy removal of peach fuzz and gentle exfoliation of dull, dead skin." To accomplish this, the Tweezerman Facial Razor uses sharp blades made from stainless steel. The brand maintains that they're durable and easy to clean in between exfoliating sessions. Proper cleaning protocols include sanitizing the blade with rubbing alcohol, placing the cap back on the razor after cleaning, then storing the tool in a dry place. Make sure to replace the blade every two to three months. This particular set comes with three replacement blades.

"This is a very handy tool for cleaning up my facial hair, around the eyebrows, etc.," one Amazon customer writes. "I also use this about once per week to exfoliate my forehead. The weight is perfect in my hand—not too heavy—and a really nice travel size."

A single pack includes 12 single-use razors, each with a "100% stainless steel blade." Kitsch recommend dermaplaning your face every three to four weeks, meaning this affordable kit can see you through up to a year of uses.

"I have been using these for years, and they are the only razor like this that does not cut my face," one Amazon reviewer shares. "They are easy to use, reliable and last a long time. I always have one or two in my makeup bag! They also make for a great small gift!"

The tool also comes with a plastic cover that conceals majority of the blade for better precision with eyebrow grooming. This set includes nine razors.

"I never write reviews, but this tool is amazing," exclaims one satisfied Amazon reviewer. "I used this product for the first time today to remove blonde facial peach fuzz and upper lip [hairs]. While most dermaplane razors don't usually have an accompanying shaving cream, The Skinny Confidential Hot Shave Razor does. The Hot Shave Cream, which you can purchase in a bundle with the razor, aims to make your shaving experience more comfortable thanks to its "buttery cream" texture and roster of skin-soothing ingredients such as shea butter and aloe. In theory, the cream should make your skin feel soft and smooth post-shave. In addition to the tool and shave cream, the bundle includes two additional blades.

"Obsessed," one of The Skinny Confidential customers writes. "A perfect physical exfoliant of dead skin, and my make up goes on so smooth. This is a great quality tool. The removable blades are 10/10. Also, the length makes it so much easier to use than ones I've tried in the past."

Out of all the tools on this list, the Versed Instant Gratification At-Home Dermaplaning Tool makes the boldest claim of them all: It claims to deliver "professional-grade exfoliation" and "after a few minutes with the tool, you’ll see more even-toned skin and feel a softer complexion." The razor's design features a stainless-steel blade and a metal handle that purports to have a "slip-free grip." The blades are meant to withstand three to four uses, and the razor comes with two backup blades.

"I've been dealing with a buildup of dead skin on my face for years, and this is the one thing that has truly helped," one Versed reviewer shares. "Regardless of how many exfoliants I used, nothing has ever made a difference until now. You need to buy this tool; you won't regret it!"
