The SLS AMG Black Series Is Still the Coolest Mercedes Supercar

As nice as the AMG GT R and upcoming AMG One are, I can't help but continue to admire Mercedes's last-gen supercar, the SLS AMG. It has a big, loud engine and incredibly rad gullwing doors. It may not be as outright fast as the company's latest and greatest, but it's still cool as hell. This Black Series model is the cream of the crop, and it's for sale right now on eBay Motors. You should buy it.

Welcome to You Must Buy, our daily look at the cars you really should be buying instead of that boring commuter sedan.

Like every other SLS AMG, the Black Series comes standard with a 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V-8 engine, sending power to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Thanks to revised intake ducting, redesigned valvetrain and new camshafts, the motor makes 631 horsepower in Black Series trim, and revs to 8000 RPM. It propels the car to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds, and a top speed of 196 mph. It also sounds like a GT3 car for the road. This particular car is painted in a bright shade of yellow, and has just 3736 miles on the clock.

The SLS Black Series got a host of other improvements to complement that extra power. There are carbon-ceramic brakes, new wings front and rear, a retuned adjustable-suspension, forged alloy wheels, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, and carbon fiber trim everywhere.

The car is currently listed on eBay with a price of $449,995 or best offer in Chicago, Illinois. That's a whole lot of money, even for an SLS. In fact, that's about $175,000 more than the car's original MSRP. But considering this might end up being the very last Mercedes with this sort of engine (and those awesome doors), we can see why someone would pay the premium for a special edition version like this Black Series.
