SLO County butcher shop to close locations next month — unless someone buys the business

Joe Tarica/jtaric@thetribunenews.com

J&R Natural Meats, a butcher with locations in Paso Robles and Templeton, is closing its doors June 1 unless someone decides to buy the business.

According to Manager Jason O’Neal, the owner of J&R Natural Meats is looking to retire.

The butcher has served San Luis Obispo County for the last 14 years.

In an email to customers, J&R Natural Meats ownership said the closures were due to economic and staffing issues, as well as “regulatory headwinds.”

“J&R has played a small but essential role in providing locally raised meat to the community, as well as offering a broad selection of fine meats from commercial producers,” the email read. “We couldn’t have done it without you.”

J&R was founded by Jim Fogle, his son Ryan Perske and local rancher Laird Foshay in 2010.

“It’s artisanal,” Perske told The Tribune of the business’s unique offerings in 2014. “The meats we offer you here are really special.”

The email urged anyone who might be interested in owning or operating either J&R Natural Meats locations to reach out to laird@jrmeats.com.
