Attention: Covergirl, Maybelline, and all beauty giants, Skylar Diggins Smith needs a contract. She needed one yesterday, but she’ll take one now. When the three-time WNBA all-star and beauty obsessive was asked about the famous faces we’ve been seeing fill the beauty space - hooray diversity and hooray women of all backgrounds - Smith was quick to add that is her thing and she would love to get further involved. “I would love to,” said Smith. “Are you kidding me? Of course, I’d love to be part of a beauty campaign! I love and appreciate the beauty realm and space.”

Smith took time off her offseason to jump on the phone with us and talk all things beauty, nutrition, fitness, and basketball. Let this pro give you a few pro tips.

You’ve mentioned before you have this balance of a beauty and the beast. What does that means to you?

The beauty and the beast started a few years ago and it really applies to every aspect of my life. In my sport, I kind of have an on the court Skylar and an off the court Skylar, but my attitude and approach to the game is fierce and competitive. I'm a mean competitor, that's the best aspect. In my workouts, I'm not worried if I look cute, I'm all about working out and winning. But I also love the contrast. Getting my hair done and my nails done and embracing my femininity.

Tell me about your beauty routine on and off the court. Do you wear makeup in games?

I do sometimes. I won't be full beat, but I’ll wear a little product, a little mascara. Maybe something on my cheeks, but not too much because it's all going to come off. I wear the bare necessity. A little lotion and a bit of moisturizer. I wouldn’t say full-face foundation, but something light and natural. Only for half the game, though. If it’s a TV game or something like that, I’ll wear makeup. I’m pretty much a minimalist when it comes to makeup and my everyday life.

How about fitness; what’s your daily workout routine?

Right now I’m in offseason, so I’m revving up for the season already, which doesn’t start until April, but it’s a lifestyle so I feel like I never stop anyway. I spend about two hours working out just off the court - no basketball, just body, core, and strength. It really depends on the day, I also do some pool workouts. I spend two hours doing weight and body and then I spend an hour to two on the floor. For four days, I just do body workouts and three days a week I do body workouts plus basketball court work. When I get closer to the nitty gritty I’ll ramp it up. It’s about four-hour workout days on the days I do both and on the others it’s two hours.
