Sigma-Aldrich, PHE Partner for Certified Reference Materials

Sigma-Aldrich Corporation SIAL inked a deal with Public Health England (PHE) to make and supply bacterial and fungal NCTC/NCPF Certified Reference Materials (CRM) in Lenticule disc format globally. This would be used as controls in food, water, environmental and clinical testing microbiology laboratories.

Every CRM Lenticule disc consists of a fixed level of pure culture of viable bacteria or fungi in a control-dried water-soluble matrix. The bacterial and fungal strains are prepared directly from strains chosen from PHE's National Collection of Type Cultures (NCTC) and National Collection of Pathogenic Fungi (NCPF). The CRMs will be made as per the ISO Guide 34 and packed at Sigma-Aldrich, which is convenient for the customers.

Sigma-Aldrich has invested in a new Biosafety Level 2 facility and broadened the scope of its ISO 17025/ ISO Guide 34 accreditation to make this product range. The company will do this in compliance with its Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and quality guidelines.

The addition of the CRMs support Sigma-Aldrich’s plan to provide a broad range of products that will increase customer confidence in the quality and accuracy of analytical data.

As per PHE, by licensing the Lenticule disc technology to Sigma-Aldrich, the PHE microbiologists can focus on the development of new products to improve health conditions, while end users will benefit from Sigma-Aldrich's expertise in manufacturing and global distribution.

Sigma-Aldrich is a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) stock.

Some better-ranked stocks in the chemicals space include Innospec Inc. IOSP, Celanese Corporation CE and Air Products and Chemicals Inc. APD. While Innospec sports a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy), Celanese and Air Products hold a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).
