Yahoo Finance Sarah Ferguson Offered To Consult For Her Character On 'The Crown'
While a scene centered on her wedding to her now ex-husband Prince Andrew in 1986 did make it into The Crown's fourth season, Sarah Ferguson's character has yet to make her big splash on the show.
Fergie even wrote to The Crown executive producer Andy Harries offering her insider input.
The show didn't take her up on the offer, but she's remained positive about the show.
Given that The Crown is inspired by the extensive, complicated history of the royal family, it's never been a surprise that there are some historical moments the popular Netflix series skips over.
In fact, some have even called for the show to carry a disclaimer pointing out that it's a work of fiction, causing no small bit of controversy, especially as the seasons creep their way closer to the modern day. Whether it's tweaking the occasional incident for dramatic effect, or simply moving past a few altogether, there's too much storyline to jam pack into the show's limited episodes.
One of those things that have been skipped, apparently, is Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.
"Hello? Where is Fergie?" she jokes about the Netflix show in Town & Country's new digital cover story. Indeed, while a scene centered on her wedding to her now ex-husband Prince Andrew in 1986 did make it into The Crown's fourth season, Fergie's character has yet to make her big splash on the show. Still, she doesn't seem to be holding any grudges. In fact, she tells T&C that she even wrote to The Crown executive producer Andy Harries offering her insider input. “I said to him, ‘Why can’t I help my character?’ ” she says.
The show didn't take her up on the offer, but she's remained positive about the show. “I thought it was filmed beautifully. The cinematography was excellent,” she said in an interview with Us Weekly earlier this year. And with season 5 of The Crown poised to move into the '90s—a time which included some of Fergie's close friend Princess Diana's most infamous moments, as well as her own period of drama with the royal family—it seems likely that the duchess herself (or her character, at least) might play a much larger role in the show's future. For that, we'll just have to wait and see.
