In 3Q15, sales for Petróleo Brasileiro (PBR) and YPF (YPF) rose by 13% and 54%, respectively, on a YoY (year-over-year) basis, as compared to the contractions of 6.5% and 9% of ExxonMobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX), respectively.
Petróleo Brasileiro (PBR) and YPF (YPF) represent the large-cap (large capitalization) South American ADRs (American depositary receipts) in the oil and gas sector. Petróleo Brasileiro is Brazilian, and YPF is an Argentinian-based integrated oil and gas company. ExxonMobil and Chevron represent large-cap US energy companies.
YTD performance
On a YTD (year-to-date) basis, ExxonMobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX) have fallen 12% and 18%, respectively, and Petróleo Brasileiro (PBR) and YPF have fallen 31% and 24%, respectively. The US-based energy benchmark, the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLE), has fallen about 13% on a YTD basis.
In 3Q15, the EPS of the US-based energy companies fell by 2.5% on a YoY basis, whereas YPF rose by 75%.
