Rupert Everett has said he felt "no guilt" in conducting an affair with Paula Yates while she was married to Bob Geldof.

The actor, who is gay, opened up about the six-year relationship for his Piers Morgan's Life Stories episode, which will air on Thursday.

In a preview clip, Morgan remarks that the My Best Friend's Wedding star was involved with the late TV presenter "before, during and after" her relationship with Geldof.

"We were very, very close, I must say, for a long time, and she’s someone that I adored and still adore," he says.

Asked if he was in love with her, he replies: "I think I was in love with her. I adored her."

Another part of the clip sees Morgan ask: "How did you square off Bob in all this?" Everett states that he "just ignored him".

On whether he felt guilt over carrying on the relationship while Yates and Geldof were married, he says: "No. I don’t know, I think it would be for her to feel guilty, not me."

He's previously discussed the relationship, telling The Guardian back in 2009: "She was married. I was gay. These constraints operated like a kind of safety net… We were both narcissists. We both loved to act up and we adored being looked at."

They had three daughters: Fifi, 37, Pixie, 30, and Peaches, who died of a heroin overdose in 2014 at the age of 25.

Yates shared another daughter Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, 24, with INXS singer Michael Hutchence.

He took his own life in 1997, while Yates died of a heroin overdose just under three years later in 2000.
