Rising food costs mean you’ll pay more for pasta at this Charlotte food spot

High food prices have struck again. Charlotte favorite Pasta & Provisions — a staple for picking up fresh pasta, sauces and more since 1992 — is raising its prices and may remove some items from its menu.

The company announced the changes via Instagram, saying: “We have put off the inevitable for months now, knowing full well that this day would come. Given the meteoric rise in food costs across every category, we see no alternative other than to raise our prices.”

The message noted that some ingredients are too scarce to come by, leading to the potential elimination of some items.

General manager Dylan George told CharlotteFive that the price increases aren’t drastic. Instead, they’ll be just enough to help us keep afloat the business that his parents, Tommy and Debbie George, started just before Thanksgiving in 1992.

“Beef, pork, even our containers — everything we do is more expensive,” he said.

George noted that before COVID-19, a case of food-handling gloves was about $40. Now, it’s $160.

“We’re grateful for our customer base and understanding for what everyone’s going through — it’s not just us,” George said.

Responses to the message from those in the Charlotte community were supportive of the business.

Rene Washington said, “Whew!!! That was close. I thought you were announcing a close of the store. Because I’ll darn near pay WHATEVER if it means I can continue eating the delicious delectables at Pasta Provisions.”

Another message from Dawn Ashwood said, “Take all my damn money.....just don’t close!!!!”
