Reborn TVR to make first public appearance at 2016 London Motor Show

Dormant British brand TVR, famous for its fearsome sports cars such as the Sagaris and Typhon, has been revived and is readying a new car for launch in 2017.

But the company is already ready for its first public appearance and will use this week’s 2016 London Motor Show as the backdrop.

The choice of the London Motor Show is an apt one as the show itself is enjoying its own revival this year.

TVR isn’t quite ready to show us its new car but will provide a taste in the form of a full-size silhouette. A teaser previously released by the company also hints at what’s to come.

The car will be a grand touring coupe with a Cosworth-enhanced version of the 5.0-liter V-8 from the Ford Motor Company [NYSE:F] Mustang GT. It will also have the honor of being the first production car to feature iStream construction devised by legendary Formula One race car design Gordon Murray.

TVR says it has enough orders to keep it busy at least until the end of 2018. In the longer term, the company plans three other models and is hopeful of producing around 2,000 cars per year by 2022. Production will take place at a new plant to be established in Wales.

“We have built enormous momentum over the past 12 months, to the point at which we now hold more than 350 deposits from enthusiastic individuals who are keen to be proud owners and drivers of the new TVR,” Chairman Les Edgar said in a statement.

The London Motor Show gets underway this Thursday, May 5.
