Ralph Lauren (RL) reported its results for fiscal 4Q16 and fiscal 2016 on Thursday, May 12, 2016, for the period ending April 2, 2016. The company reported revenue of $1.87 billion or -0.7% YoY (year-over-year). It beat Wall Street analysts’ estimates by $16 million. The EPS (earnings per share) stood at $0.88. It beat the consensus by $0.05.

Ralph Lauren is the third-largest branded apparel company by revenue in the US. It’s behind VF Corporation (VFC) and PVH (PVH). The company is involved in designing, marketing, and distributing premium lifestyle products in four categories—apparel, home, accessories, and fragrances. Polo Ralph Lauren, Ralph Lauren Purple Label, Ralph Lauren Collection, Black Label, Lauren by Ralph Lauren, American Living, Chaps, and Club Monaco are some of the company’s well-known brands.

The company has a strong international presence. It derived 37% of its revenues from outside the US in fiscal 2015. The company outsources the manufacturing of its products to 700 different manufacturers worldwide. It doesn’t operate any production facilities directly.

Ralph Lauren sells its products through wholesale, retail, and licensing. The Wholesale segment represented ~46% of the company’s fiscal 2015 revenues. The Retail segment represented 52% of the total revenue. Licensing revenue only accounted for 2% of the company’s total revenue.

The First Trust Large Cap Value AlphaDex ETF (FTA) invests 0.69% of its holdings in Ralph Lauren.
