Queen Elizabeth made her return to Westminster Abbey, with her daughter, Princess Anne, in tow. The pair attended a special service marking the centenary year of the Royal British Legion, an organization supporting the Armed Forces community. The royal family has been involved with the Royal British Legion since its creation in the aftermath of World War I.

At the service, members of the Armed Forces community gave readings, along with Princess Anne. The Princess Royal is patron of the RBL women's section, while the Queen is patron of the RBL in its entirety.

"Today’s #RBL100 service highlighted the enduring legacy of the @PoppyLegion, the UK’s largest Armed Forces charity, as well as a looking towards to the next 100 years," the royal family posted on Twitter, along with a few photos. "Her Majesty and HRH were joined by serving personnel, veterans and volunteers at Westminster Abbey."

For the occasion, the Queen wore a blue coat and matching hat, plus pearl jewelry and a sapphire brooch. Princess Anne chose a purple coat, also with a matching hat, and sported pearl jewelry, as well.

During the event, the Queen was spotted using a walking stick. At age 95, this is the first time the monarch has been seen using a walking stick since 2004, following a knee operation. Today, reporters were told the Queen was using the stick "for comfort."

Westminster Abbey is an important location for the British royals. Prince William and Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, married at the nearly 1,000-year-old church, as did Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh.

In March, the Abbey was turned into a vaccination clinic, giving out Covid-19 vaccines. Today is believed to be the Queen's first visit to the Abbey since November 2020, when she made a private visit to the grave of the Unknown Warrior in the church.
