Privacy-focused Brave browser crosses 10M monthly active users

Privacy-focused internet browser Brave says that it has passed 10 million-mark in terms of monthly active users (MAU).

Brave’s MAU figure was 8.7 million in October and jumped to 10.4 million at the end of November, witnessing nearly 20% growth during the period and almost 100% in the last one year, according to an announcement Thursday.

The browser’s daily active users (DAU), on the other hand, have tripled in the last 12 months, to 3.3 million.

Brave, with opt-in blockchain functionality, also compensates content creators, users and advertisers in its native Basic Attention Token (BAT) for viewing online ads. Brave said Thursday that nearly 340,000 verified creators have signed up to receive its built-in token payments. “This is a 12x increase from the 28,000 who had verified at the beginning of 2019,” it added.

Founded in 2015 by Mozilla co-founder Brendan Eich, Brave is expected to unveil some more features in the future. It did not provide specific details. In 2017, Brave raised about $35 million under 30 seconds through a sale of its ethereum-based BAT tokens.
