President Joe Biden moved away from his childhood home when he was just ten years old. But his roots in Scranton, Pennsylvania continue define his origin story and shape his political identity. The "scrappy kid from Scranton" has campaigned there and mentioned it in numerouos speeches and ads. He's even visited his boyhood home "often," ABC News reports. So what exactly does that home look like?

The three-story Colonial home at 2446 N. Washington Ave. is located in Scranton's Green Ridge neighborhood. The exterior walls of the first and second story feature gray clapboard siding of different sizes. Dark exterior shutters frame the front of the home's white-trimmed windows. (All those windows mean that the interiors get a ton of natural light!) Stairs flanked by black metal rails lead to the home's small, covered front porch where there's seating adjacent to the door.

President Biden's family lived in the Scranton home with his maternal grandparents, who were the homeowners, according to the New York Times. Struggling to find work in Pennsylvania, Joe Biden Sr. had been commuting to Wilmington, Delaware, to clean boilers at a heating and cooling company. In 1953, the Biden family moved to Claymont, Delaware.

On the morning of Election Day 2020, Biden returned to his childhood home and signed a note on the living room wall: "From this house to the White House with the grace of God. Joe Biden 11-3-2020." Yesterday, President Biden's penned message was officially realized when he moved into the White House.
