Yahoo Finance Porsche's 2025 Taycans Boast Better EPA Range Than Their Predecessors
The Porsche Taycan has been one of the most desirable electric vehicles on U.S. shores since it debuted back in 2019, but one detail has stuck out like a sore thumb among otherwise impressive stats: the EPA's low range estimates. Now, as the facelifted 2025 model hits American dealerships, new EPA numbers have shown up on the Porsche website, suggesting that improvement in battery capacity and other updates for the updated car range have delivered noticeable gains over the 2024 numbers.
The base model of the 2024 Taycan had an EPA-rated range of only 206 miles, a figure that paled in comparison to what the federal government said many other EVs were capable of doing. For the 2025 model year, the standard Taycan with the base Performance Battery sees the greatest improvement in the lineup over the old model; a larger battery size and efficiency upgrades have boosted EPA range by 32%, giving it a range of 274 miles — 68 more than the 2024 version. The 2025 Taycan with the Performance Battery Plus earns the highest range estimate of the lineup overall at 318 miles, a 31% increase over 2024’s 242.
The standard Performance Battery and Performance Battery Plus have gotten bigger, with new capacities of 89 and 105 kWh, respectively — but there are other factors that play into the 2025 range increase. Porsche made the Taycan even more efficient as well, editing the aerodynamics and swapping in an updated electric motor. The new rear-axle motor is part of the reason the base Taycan saw such improvement, as it’s the only rear-wheel-drive option in the Taycan lineup. AWD variants saw range improvement between 14–26%, depending on trim level. That said, don't feel like you'll be missing out if you go for the maximum range version; after all, we like the base model too.
