Pantaflix's (ETR:PAL) investors will be pleased with their solid 289% return over the last year

The most you can lose on any stock (assuming you don't use leverage) is 100% of your money. But if you pick the right stock, you can make a lot more than 100%. For example, the Pantaflix AG (ETR:PAL) share price had more than doubled in just one year - up 289%. In the last week shares have slid back 4.5%. Looking back further, the stock price is 50% higher than it was three years ago.

Let's take a look at the underlying fundamentals over the longer term, and see if they've been consistent with shareholders returns.

Pantaflix wasn't profitable in the last twelve months, it is unlikely we'll see a strong correlation between its share price and its earnings per share (EPS). Arguably revenue is our next best option. Generally speaking, companies without profits are expected to grow revenue every year, and at a good clip. Some companies are willing to postpone profitability to grow revenue faster, but in that case one would hope for good top-line growth to make up for the lack of earnings.

Pantaflix grew its revenue by 88% last year. That's a head and shoulders above most loss-making companies. Meanwhile, the market has paid attention, sending the share price soaring 289% in response. It's great to see strong revenue growth, but the question is whether it can be sustained. Given the positive sentiment around the stock we're cautious, but there's no doubt its worth watching.

A Different Perspective

We're pleased to report that Pantaflix shareholders have received a total shareholder return of 289% over one year. That certainly beats the loss of about 2% per year over the last half decade. The long term loss makes us cautious, but the short term TSR gain certainly hints at a brighter future. It's always interesting to track share price performance over the longer term. But to understand Pantaflix better, we need to consider many other factors. To that end, you should be aware of the 2 warning signs we've spotted with Pantaflix .
