Each bathing suit in the new FP Beach Swim collection is made with at least 50% eco-conscious fibers that are just as durable as traditional materials but use less water in production. These recycled, recyclable and degradable materials help reduce Free People’s water footprint and promote the brand’s Care FP mission.
What is Care FP?
In 2019, Care FP was developed in an effort to further Free People’s commitment to the environment. The eco-conscious swimwear collection follows those standards by utilizing recycled and reusable packaging and using innovative recyclable fabrics that reduce the collection’s water footprint in production. Free People increases Care FP offerings by over 150% every year, has saved two million bags from circulation through the skip-a-bag program and has recirculated over 52,000 units of clothing to organizations in need.
What fabrics does FP Swim use?
The new Free People bathing suits are made using three main fabrics:
Eco Nylon: Eco Nylon is made from recycled yarns to help breathe new life into yarn and reduce greenhouse emissions. The eco-yarn is produced in Brazil and includes an Oeko-Tex certification to ensure it is free of hazardous chemicals and safe for our bodies.
Recycled Nylon: This recycled nylon fiber is GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified REPREVE® and made of 100% recycled bottles and post-industrial waste. The fabric helps keep plastic bottles out of our oceans and has an Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 yarn certification to ensure it is free of hazardous chemicals and safe for all.
Recycled Polyester: Made from GRS certified Reborn fiber and recycled materials like pre-consumer fiber, this material reduces waste through recirculation. Because the production process requires much less energy compared to traditional polyester, there is a significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
