One PGT Innovations Insider Raised Their Stake In The Previous Year \

Insiders were net buyers of PGT Innovations, Inc.'s (NYSE:PGTI ) stock during the past year. That is, insiders bought more stock than they sold.

While insider transactions are not the most important thing when it comes to long-term investing, we do think it is perfectly logical to keep tabs on what insiders are doing.

The Last 12 Months Of Insider Transactions At PGT Innovations

Over the last year, we can see that the biggest insider purchase was by Independent Director Richard Feintuch for US$203k worth of shares, at about US$20.35 per share. Even though the purchase was made at a significantly lower price than the recent price (US$25.19), we still think insider buying is a positive. Because the shares were purchased at a lower price, this particular buy doesn't tell us much about how insiders feel about the current share price.

Insider Ownership

I like to look at how many shares insiders own in a company, to help inform my view of how aligned they are with insiders. Usually, the higher the insider ownership, the more likely it is that insiders will be incentivised to build the company for the long term. Insiders own 5.1% of PGT Innovations shares, worth about US$78m. While this is a strong but not outstanding level of insider ownership, it's enough to indicate some alignment between management and smaller shareholders.

So What Do The PGT Innovations Insider Transactions Indicate?

The fact that there have been no PGT Innovations insider transactions recently certainly doesn't bother us. On a brighter note, the transactions over the last year are encouraging. Insiders do have a stake in PGT Innovations and their transactions don't cause us concern. So while it's helpful to know what insiders are doing in terms of buying or selling, it's also helpful to know the risks that a particular company is facing.
