Since institutional investors own more than half the issued stock, the board will likely have to pay attention to their preferences. Nutrien is not owned by hedge funds. Looking at our data, we can see that the largest shareholder is FMR LLC with 4.3% of shares outstanding. T. Rowe Price Group, Inc. is the second largest shareholder owning 3.9% of common stock, and The Vanguard Group, Inc. holds about 3.5% of the company stock.

Our studies suggest that the top 25 shareholders collectively control less than half of the company's shares, meaning that the company's shares are widely disseminated and there is no dominant shareholder.

Researching institutional ownership is a good way to gauge and filter a stock's expected performance. The same can be achieved by studying analyst sentiments. Quite a few analysts cover the stock, so you could look into forecast growth quite easily.

Insider Ownership Of Nutrien

While the precise definition of an insider can be subjective, almost everyone considers board members to be insiders. Company management run the business, but the CEO will answer to the board, even if he or she is a member of it.

Insider ownership is positive when it signals leadership are thinking like the true owners of the company. However, high insider ownership can also give immense power to a small group within the company. This can be negative in some circumstances.
