Is Now The Time To Put PDD Holdings (NASDAQ:PDD) On Your Watchlist?

The excitement of investing in a company that can reverse its fortunes is a big draw for some speculators, so even companies that have no revenue, no profit, and a record of falling short, can manage to find investors. But as Peter Lynch said in One Up On Wall Street, 'Long shots almost never pay off.' While a well funded company may sustain losses for years, it will need to generate a profit eventually, or else investors will move on and the company will wither away.

In contrast to all that, many investors prefer to focus on companies like PDD Holdings (NASDAQ:PDD), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While this doesn't necessarily speak to whether it's undervalued, the profitability of the business is enough to warrant some appreciation - especially if its growing.

How Fast Is PDD Holdings Growing Its Earnings Per Share?

In the last three years PDD Holdings' earnings per share took off; so much so that it's a bit disingenuous to use these figures to try and deduce long term estimates. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. Impressively, PDD Holdings' EPS catapulted from CN¥28.94 to CN¥57.55, over the last year. Year on year growth of 99% is certainly a sight to behold. That could be a sign that the business has reached a true inflection point.

Of course the knack is to find stocks that have their best days in the future, not in the past. You could base your opinion on past performance, of course, but you may also want to check this interactive graph of professional analyst EPS forecasts for PDD Holdings.

Are PDD Holdings Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Owing to the size of PDD Holdings, we wouldn't expect insiders to hold a significant proportion of the company. But we are reassured by the fact they have invested in the company. We note that their impressive stake in the company is worth CN¥70b. That equates to 32% of the company, making insiders powerful and aligned with other shareholders. Very encouraging.

Is PDD Holdings Worth Keeping An Eye On?

PDD Holdings' earnings per share have been soaring, with growth rates sky high. That sort of growth is nothing short of eye-catching, and the large investment held by insiders should certainly brighten the view of the company. At times fast EPS growth is a sign the business has reached an inflection point, so there's a potential opportunity to be had here. So at the surface level, PDD Holdings is worth putting on your watchlist; after all, shareholders do well when the market underestimates fast growing companies. What about risks? Every company has them, and we've spotted 1 warning sign for PDD Holdings you should know about.
