Is Now The Time To Put Nova Leap Health (CVE:NLH) On Your Watchlist?

For beginners, it can seem like a good idea (and an exciting prospect) to buy a company that tells a good story to investors, even if it completely lacks a track record of revenue and profit. And in their study titled Who Falls Prey to the Wolf of Wall Street?' Leuz et. al. found that it is 'quite common' for investors to lose money by buying into 'pump and dump' schemes.

In contrast to all that, I prefer to spend time on companies like Nova Leap Health (CVE:NLH), which has not only revenues, but also profits. While profit is not necessarily a social good, it's easy to admire a business that can consistently produce it. In comparison, loss making companies act like a sponge for capital - but unlike such a sponge they do not always produce something when squeezed.

Nova Leap Health's Improving Profits

Over the last three years, Nova Leap Health has grown earnings per share (EPS) like young bamboo after rain; fast, and from a low base. So I don't think the percent growth rate is particularly meaningful. Thus, it makes sense to focus on more recent growth rates, instead. It's good to see that Nova Leap Health's EPS have grown from US$0.019 to US$0.022 over twelve months. That's a 15% gain; respectable growth in the broader scheme of things.

I like to take a look at earnings before interest and (EBIT) tax margins, as well as revenue growth, to get another take on the quality of the company's growth. On the one hand, Nova Leap Health's EBIT margins fell over the last year, but on the other hand, revenue grew. So if EBIT margins can stabilize, this top-line growth should pay off for shareholders.

Are Nova Leap Health Insiders Aligned With All Shareholders?

Like that fresh smell in the air when the rains are coming, insider buying fills me with optimistic anticipation. That's because insider buying often indicates that those closest to the company have confidence that the share price will perform well. Of course, we can never be sure what insiders are thinking, we can only judge their actions.

It's good to see Nova Leap Health insiders walking the walk, by spending US$606k on shares in just twelve months. When you contrast that with the complete lack of sales, it's easy for shareholders to brim with joyful expectancy. It is also worth noting that it was Independent Director Wayne Myles who made the biggest single purchase, worth CA$186k, paying CA$0.70 per share.

The good news, alongside the insider buying, for Nova Leap Health bulls is that insiders (collectively) have a meaningful investment in the stock. Indeed, they hold US$16m worth of its stock. That's a lot of money, and no small incentive to work hard. That amounts to 34% of the company, demonstrating a degree of high-level alignment with shareholders.

Should You Add Nova Leap Health To Your Watchlist?

One important encouraging feature of Nova Leap Health is that it is growing profits. On top of that, we've seen insiders buying shares even though they already own plenty. To me, that all makes it well worth a spot on your watchlist, as well as continuing research. Before you take the next step you should know about the 3 warning signs for Nova Leap Health that we have uncovered.

The good news is that Nova Leap Health is not the only growth stock with insider buying. Here's a list of them... with insider buying in the last three months!
