Considering that the maison has left its indelibly elegant mark on the industries of travel, hospitality, beauty, luxury goods and watches (among others), it was only a matter of time until Louis Vuitton tried its hand at video games, too. As part of the celebrations marking 200 years since the birth of Mr Louis Vuitton himself, the French luxury behemoth has today unveiled Louis The Game: a first-person quest that mirrors the journey the young Vuitton made as a teenager in the mid-19th Century. In 1835, aged just 14, Vuitton set out from his family home in the Jura Mountains of eastern France on what would turn out to be a two year walk to Paris.

The video game sees Vivienne – the flower-headed character fast becoming LV’s most recognisable mascot – set out on her own quest through seven levels (each inspired by major world cities) to arrive at a festive birthday destination. Along the way, she (you) must collect as many monogram candles as possible, and the highest scores will top a global leader board on the LV website. However, pride is not the only prize on offer. There are 30 NFTs hidden throughout the game, ten of which have been designed by the digital artist, Beeple, who you might know as the creator of an NFT artwork that recently sold at auction for $69 million…

The game is both an exploration of Louis Vuitton's history and an illustration of its incredibly modern practices, and how the two intertwine throughout the universe of the brand. Having completed his almost 300-mile journey, Mr Louis Vuitton set about making his name, and would soon come to be one of the most highly regarded trunkmakers of his era thanks to his progressive construction techniques and impeccable eye for luxury. That the company is still forging ahead today, with that same passion for the new, is testament to his legacy.

The video game is not the only marker of Mr Vuitton’s 200th set to be unveiled this year, and there is much more to come. To think that we know so little about the man behind one of society’s most notable names is a shame, but as the next few months unfold, that is certain to change.
