Nicole Richie accidentally set her hair on fire in 40th birthday video

·2 min read

Nicole Richie basically lived out everyone's birthday candle-related fears over the weekend, accidentally setting her hair on fire while celebrating her 40th birthday.

In a video posted on Instagram, we can see Nicole's hair physically catch on fire - and it looks properly scary.

The clip shows Nicole leaning forwards to blow out the candles on her 40th birthday cake, with the bottom strands of her hair catching fire as she does so. The flames then spread up the right side of her hair as Nicole realises and screams, managing to lean out of the way.

Nicole didn't share details on whether she was actually hurt during the accident, though she seemed to be able to joke about the situation, adding the caption, "Well… so far 40 is 🔥".

Yikes.

Of course, Nicole's friends and family were quick to comment, both in shock and to check that the fashion designer was OK.

Nicole's younger sister, Sofia Richie, commented, "OH MY FUCKING GOD!!!!!!!!!!!" before jokingly adding, "That’s hot😂😂😂😂😂," in reference to the catchphrase from Nicole's show The Simple Life which she starred in alongside Paris Hilton.

Paris herself also joined the comments, writing, "OMFG 🙀 Happy Birthday Bill! Hope your ok!🥺 love youuuuu."

Other stars also popped up seeming suitably shocked, with Kelly Rowland writing, "My heart just dropped!!!!" and Katy Perry adding, "WAIT NO WAY WAIT OMG".

Naomi Campbell also wished the reality star a happy birthday, commenting, "Happy birthday Cuz , are you ok Cuz. ? May reign on is all ❤️🎂❤️🎂❤️🎂"

Nicole shared moments from her 40th birthday celebrations on her Instagram Stories, including a picture of the cake in question featuring a picture of a young Nicole doing ballet.

Her birthday posts also featured throwback snaps alongside the likes of Mariah Carey, with Sofia Richie also sharing a sweet picture of the sisters hugging.

We hope Nicole is OK!
