Netflix's stock split, a real life hoverboard and rent vs. buy

Stocks (^DJI, ^GSPC, ^IXIC) spent the morning digging out of a hole after Greek debt talks hit a snag. Here at home investors seemed to shrug off the much expected downward revision of Q1 GDP.

Here are some of the other stories Yahoo Finance is keeping an eye on today.

Renting vs. buying
Is the American Dream becoming a nightmare? A new study from Harvard finds the rate of home ownership is at a two-decade low and soaring demand for apartments is leading to rent increases well above the rate of inflation.

CEO pay vs. performance
Which investors are getting the most bang for their buck? The Wall Street Journal is out with its latest comparison of CEO pay to stock performance, and the winner is John Standley of drugstore chain Rite Aid (RAD).  At the bottom, Steven Newman of offshore oil rig operator Transocean (RIG).

The future is now
We'd like to avoid the "Back to the Future" references in this story, but we can't! Toyota's (TM) Lexus has built a working model of a hoverboard, a skateboard that floats with the help of nitrogen-cooled superconductors and magnets. Fans of the Back to the Future movies remember Marty McFly used a hoverboard to escape from the bad guys in the second installment of the film.  Bloomberg notes the company plans more details October 21st, which is the day Marty, Doc and Jennifer went back to the future.
