MVC Technologies Inc. and the Health Quality Innovation Collaborative (HQIC) Partner to Develop My Virtual Clinic for Canada's Medical Cannabis Industry

MISSISSAUGA, ON / ACCESSWIRE / March 26, 2015 / MVC Technologies Inc., a Canadian healthcare IT solutions company, enters into a partnership agreement with the Health Quality Innovation Collaborative (HQIC), a non-profit organization, to develop My Virtual Clinic. This online platform secures the process and transmission of documents to acquire medical cannabis under the Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR).

HQIC is a collective of health care professionals founded by Dr. Sanjeev Goel, lead physician at the Brampton Wise Elephant Family Health Team, Coroner for the Region of Peel, Primary Care Leads for Central West for Cancer Care Ontario and CDPM initiative in CW LHIN. Recognized by the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) and approved as an OSCAR EMR service provider, the organization is dedicated to servicing the Healthcare Industry by improving efficiency and quality of care through technology.

HQIC has developed a network of health platforms including Synapse, miDASH, intelliDASH and eRaven. My Virtual Clinic leverages functionalities of miDASH, award winner of the 2013 Outcomes Challenge by Canada Health Infoway. To date over 200 physicians and 2000 patients have joined the virtual network that links different health care providers and their patients.

My Virtual Clinic solves the gap in the limited control and regulation present in the Medical Marijuana Industry. Currently, many patients are obtaining untested and unverified medical cannabis from unauthorized growers, including dispensaries and compassion clubs. Dr. Sanjeev Goel explains, "In my experience I have observed many physicians, who are apprehensive about recommending medical cannabis, due to uncertainty around the regulations. My Virtual Clinic will help to provide physicians with further direction and assurance that their information is regulated and secured."

In addition to allowing patients manage appointments, access personal health information and interact with their health care provider, My Virtual Clinic enables physicians and Licensed Producers to securely access and electronically verify medical documents and registration applications. This exchange of information is done while preserving the privacy and security of the Patient's Health Information (PHI) and remaining compliant under the MMPR and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).

MVC Technologies is looking forward to its ongoing collaboration with HQIC in creating an industry standard through innovative technology.
