How Much House Can I Afford With $100K in Every State?
Earning a salary of $100,000 doesn’t stretch as far as it once used to. Depending on where you live, it may cover more than half your purchase of a new home — or the money may only go as far as 10% of the total.
To find out how much home you can afford on $100K, GOBankingRates took Zillow’s April 2024 typical home values for single-family residences from all states (plus Washington, D.C.) and divided these numbers against $100,000. The end result was how much of a home $100K can buy you in each state. Only two states, West Virginia and Mississippi, emerged with percentages of more than 50% while Hawaii ranked in last place with $100K only able to buy 10% of a home.
Keep reading to see each state ranked in order from the smallest to largest percentage of home that $100K can buy you.
