Not even inflation could take the wind out of their sails; according to the Fall 2022 Consumer Travel Sentiments study from the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA), 77% of Americans would rather take a vacation than buy a computer, a television, a car, a gaming console, show tickets or other goods.

The travel bug should continue well into 2023. A recent survey from Exodus Travel found that 80% of Americans say they need vacations in 2023.
"Travel in 2023 looks strong," Audrey Hendley, president of AmEx Travel, told Condé Nast Traveler in November. "As borders continue to re-open, people are not only thinking about big, international trips, they are booking them."
But people are also more than happy to stay within the U.S.
New research from Expedia Group, which explored 2023 traveler trends across Expedia, Hotels.com and Vrbo, found that travelers are visiting hidden gems in the U.S where they can rent vacation homes. In each of these areas, demand for Vrbo's private vacation homes has increased by 30% or more since September 2021.
Let's have a look at these 10 hidden gems in the U.S. and how much it costs to vacation at them for a week -- whether you're traveling solo, with a companion or as a family of four.
Nampa, Idaho
Like all the places on this list, Nampa, Idaho, abounds in natural beauty and recreational opportunities. On the entertainment front, Nampa is home to the Ford Idaho Center and the Nampa Civic Center. It also boasts tons of local craft beer and wine spots.
According to Champion Traveler, the average price of a week-long trip to Nampa is $1,351 for an individual, $2,426 for a couple and $4,549 for a family of four.

Greensboro, North Carolina
Located in the heartland of the Tar Heel State, Greensboro is in the center of a surfeit of entertainment and nightlife options. It's also abundant in parks and nature attractions.
According to BudgetYourTrip.com, travelers should plan to spend roughly $130 each per day while vacationing in Greensboro, which works out to $910 a week per person.
Layton, Utah
A suburb of Salt Lake City, Layton is a small town that is experiencing a rapid growth spurt as more people embrace its quaint charm and intense outdoorsy vibes. You might hike the Adams Canyon Trail or visit the Great Salt Lake Shorelands Preserve.
According to Champion Traveler, the typical price of a week-long trip to Layton is $1,580 for a lone traveler, $2,838 for a couple and $5,320 for a family of four.

Champion Traveler does not specifically highlight the cost of visiting Irmo, but does note that the average price of a week-long trip to South Carolina in general is $1,122 for an individual, $1,637 for a couple and $2,899 for a family of four. This should give you a rough idea given that South Carolina is a relatively small state.
Oneonta, New York
You'll find plenty of ways to interact with nature in Oneonta, New York, whether it's by spending a day on one of the many hiking trails or by visiting the Joseph L. Popp Jr. Butterfly Conservatory. According to Champion Traveler, the average price of a week-long trip to Oneonta is $1,809 for an individual, $3,249 for a couple and $6,091 for a foursome.
Hampton, Virginia

According to Champion Traveler, the average price of a week-long trip to Las Cruces is $1,339 for an individual, $2,405 for a couple and $4,508 for a family of four.

According to Champion Traveler, the average price of a week-long trip to Missoula is $1,404 for a single traveler, $2,522 for a pair and $4,727 for a family of four.
