A native of Plymout​​h, Minnesota, Amy Klobuchar was born on May 26, 1960, to a newspaper columnist and an elementary school teacher. She attended public schools in her hometown from elementary to high school. In 1982, she graduated magna cum laude from Yale University.

Post-college, Klobuchar earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago and practiced law in Minnesota as an attorney for Hennepin County.

She is the first woman elected as a Senator of Minnesota and has been serving since 2007.

Klobuchar has championed many progressive issues, including expanding access to quality healthcare, increasing wages and job opportunities, providing tax cuts for middle-class families, protecting the environment, and reducing student loan debt.
