MOVES-Valor Capital hires former Brazil central bank official as director

SAO PAULO, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Venture capital investor Valor Capital Group has hired former Brazilian central bank official Bruno Batavia as its new director of emerging tech, the company said on Thursday.

Batavia served in the central bank for 13 years, working as specialist in the financial sector and in central bank digital currencies (CBDC) in an effort that led to DREX, Brazil's CBDC set to be launched next year.

Valor Capital has invested in the past in companies such as crypto majors Coinbase and Bitso, as well as in several Brazilian firms including payment processor Stone and Tembici.

"We see a lot of innovations emerging in Brazil and going global, so we are super bullish right now in the Brazilian and Latin American ecosystem," Valor Capital's managing partner, Michael Nicklas, said in an interview. (Reporting by Gabriel Araujo Editing by Sandra Maler)
