Moderna Delays Shipment Of COVID-19 Vaccine To Canada

Baystreet.ca
·1 min read

Pharmaceutical company Moderna (NASDAQ:MRNA) has delayed the shipment of nearly 600,000 doses of its Covid-19 vaccine to Canada due to a “backlog in its quality assurance process.”

Government of Canada officials have confirmed that Moderna informed them that 590,400 COVID-19 vaccines will not arrive as expected in the coming week, adding that the company assured Ottawa that the remaining doses will be shipped no later than April 1.

Canada was set to receive 846,000 vaccine doses from Moderna this past week, of which 255,600 were delivered, according to the federal government. Moderna has said that the issue impacting Canada’s vaccine supply is a "minor hiccup" and would not impact the shipment of 855,600 doses set for the week of April 5.

Canada has, to date, received 5.9 million vaccine doses and expects to get 3.2 million doses in the next week from Pfizer (NYSE:PFE), AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) and the rescheduled Moderna shipment. Canada currently has 38,922 active COVID-19 cases and reported 5,202 new cases as of March 25.
