Toblerone has shrunk the size of its bars and people are outraged

As if 2016 has not already punished us enough, Toblerone fans are fuming this morning after the company admitted shrinking the size of its chocolate bars in the UK.

The company who makes Toblerone, Mondelez International, was forced to make a statement on the official Toblerone Facebook page after fans noticed that the gaps between the iconic swiss chocolate triangles had grown.

In fact, two sizes of Toblerone bars have gone down in weight, but the odd design decision was made to keep the size of the packets the same.

Mondelez says this is all down to rising costs in ingredients.

“Toblerone remains one of the best value and most delicious Swiss chocolate products in the market,” the Facebook statement reads.

“This is because we always work hard to ensure we offer value for money for our consumers, but like many other companies, we are experiencing higher costs for numerous ingredients.

“We carry these costs for as long as possible, but to ensure Toblerone remains on-shelf, is affordable and retains the triangular shape, we have had to reduce the weight of just two of our bars in the UK, from the wider range of available Toblerone products.”

That’s all well and good, but Toblerone eaters aren’t happy.”The change in design of the bar is an absolute disgrace,” one Facebook commenter wrote, “Designed to fool people into thinking they are buying the same quantity of chocolate as before (same size packaging, but significantly lower weight of chocolate). Shame on you Toblerone for your cynical way of increasing profits.”

“Maybe it’s all part of a marketing plan to revert back to the old shape so they can say they’ve listened to their customers and brought back the old shape that everyone loved. But at twice the price,” another suggested.

“There may be a boycott of your product in the not too distant future,” another commenter warned.

Of course, some people know exactly what’s to blame:
