McDonald's doesn't want you to know how it's doing each month

McDonald's will no longer reveal its same-store sales stats on a monthly basis.

This is according to a company spokeswoman cited by Bloomberg.

Companies facing deteriorating growth or unfavorable volatility in their operating metrics are known to become a bit more opaque with what they share with the public on a near-term basis.

So it's no surprise that McDonald's would tighten its lips considering its deteriorating US same-store sales growth stats.

Same-store sales are the sales of stores open for at least a year. It captures organic growth, adjusted for the distortions that come with the opening and closing of stores.

In its most recent monthly report, McDonald's reported an ugly 2.3% drop in US same-store sales during the month of April. As you can see from the chart above, this was just the extension of an ugly pattern the fast food chain has been experiencing for years.

Earlier this month, the company's new CEO Steve Easterbrook held an event outlining the company's plans to turn around the company, highlighting seven things that had gone wrong at the company in recent years.

Apparently, transparency was an eighth thing that had gone wrong.
