McDonald's is rolling out an all-day breakfast menu to its more than 14,300 US restaurants starting October 6, The Wall Street Journal reports.

That means McMuffins, McGriddles, and other morning menu items will be available at all times of the day or night.

The fast-food chain typically stops serving breakfast at 10:30 a.m. in most markets.

McDonald's fans have been begging for all-day breakfast for decades, but the expansion could complicate things in the kitchen.

McDonald's has previously said it doesn't serve 24-hour breakfast because its grills aren't big enough to handle breakfast and lunch items.

"It comes down to the sheer size of kitchen grills," the company said on its website. "They simply don't have the room for all of our menu options at one time — especially considering we use our grill to prepare many items on our breakfast menu."

McDonald's began testing the extended breakfast menu earlier this year.

Franchisees are adding equipment like extra grills and toasters to accommodate the new breakfast hours, according to the Journal's report.
