Markets dip, Facebook releases news app, and Guinness World Records Day

A drop of more than 2% in the price of crude oil put pressure on stocks today. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) is trading down the most of the three major indices, as much at 186 points earlier this morning. The S&P 500 (^GSPC) and the Nasdaq (^IXIC) couldn't escape either, with the former setting up for its sixth down day in seven sessions.

Another headwind in early trading were jobless claims that came in unchanged week-over-week at 276,000. However, that's higher than the expected number of 270,000.

Here are some of the other stories Yahoo Finance is keeping an eye on today.

Facebook's new app
Mark Zuckerberg's social media giant has released the previously rumored "Notify" app, a news aggregator that promises to keep users up to date on a wide range of topics from an even wider range of providers. Not unlike Apple's (AAPL) recent news app, Facebook's (FB) offering joins a crowded space of aggregators promising to deliver what people want when they want it. Who is best suited to succeed in the space?

Guinness World Records Day
Today is the eleventh annual Guinness World Records Day, and Yahoo Finance is hoping to get one of our own into the book. Check out the video above for yourself. The day also marks the anniversary of the Guinness Book of World Records setting a record of it's own, becoming "the world's bestselling copyright book," a feat it achieved on this day in 2004.
