Yahoo Finance Manitoba Hydro crews continue to restore power after storm
About 5,000 Manitoba Hydro customers are still without electricity on Friday morning, as crews work around the clock to restore service following Wednesday evening's storm.
The public power utility says most of the customers waiting for service to be restored are in the Portage la Prairie/Long Plain area, where a tornado touched down during the storm.
In Winnipeg, Hydro says about 25 customers are without electricity as of Friday morning — a big drop from the 14,000 customers who were affected at the peak of the outages.
Roughly 48,000 customers across the province were without power just after the storm, which knocked down trees, hydro poles and lines.
Hydro spokesperson Bruce Owen said crews are working in the Whiteshell region on Friday to clear uprooted trees and assess the extent of power outages in areas including Falcon Lake, Brereton Lake and Star Lake.
