Macy's (M) Outpaces Stock Market Gains: What You Should Know

Macy's (M) closed the most recent trading day at $23.01, moving +1.14% from the previous trading session. This move outpaced the S&P 500's daily gain of 0.4%. At the same time, the Dow added 0.33%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq lost 1.1%.

Coming into today, shares of the department store operator had gained 8.33% in the past month. In that same time, the Retail-Wholesale sector gained 3.05%, while the S&P 500 lost 0.01%.

Macy's will be looking to display strength as it nears its next earnings release. On that day, Macy's is projected to report earnings of $1.62 per share, which would represent a year-over-year decline of 33.88%. Meanwhile, our latest consensus estimate is calling for revenue of $8.22 billion, down 5.08% from the prior-year quarter.

For the full year, our Zacks Consensus Estimates are projecting earnings of $4.18 per share and revenue of $24.44 billion, which would represent changes of -21.28% and -0.06%, respectively, from the prior year.
