Logitech SmartDock to Improve Skype for Business Experience

Switzerland-based computer peripherals company, Logitech International SA LOGI, in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation MSFT, launched Logitech SmartDock, an AV meeting room solution.

Logitech SmartDock is a seamless, easy-to-use touch-screen console which helps to launch and manage video calls in any meeting space, regardless of size. It works with Skype for Business and qualified devices, including Logitech ConferenceCams.

The product is equipped with HDMI input and output, three USB 3.1 ports and gigabit Ethernet. This makes it compatible with a range of Skype Room Systems-certified devices. Further, it has a power-saving sensor which activates the Logitech SmartDock when motion is detected in the meeting room and automatically turns the display off when the space is empty. Logitech SmartDock also enables easy sharing of content via HDMI, with 1080p 60fps input and capture.

Logitech SmartDock integrates several components into a purpose-built, Skype Room System-certified solution, taking the noise and clutter out of the conference room. Thus, the addition of Logitech SmartDock enables users to easily start video calls, share content in a meeting, and optimize the overall collaboration experience.

Logitech’s latest solution aids people to join meetings with a single touch, instantly project to the display in the room and share to remote participants via their Skype for Business clients on a smartphone/laptop. The new Skype for Business meeting experience empowers users to simply enter a SmartDock-equipped conference room and work together as if they were in the same room, even without a laptop.

Logitech and Skype for Business have collaborated for many years to offer high-quality, easy-to-use devices for a great audio and video conferencing experience. Skype for Business is being used by corporates and individuals alike today, taking care of all of their daily communications needs.

Microsoft and Logitech continue to merge their efforts toward simplification of the meeting experience. This should ultimately drive greater video adoption and enhance collaboration across office and business boundaries.

Logitech has been benefiting from its robust business model that focuses on maximizing profit in PC peripherals and expanding into new business categories. The company’s cloud-based video conferencing services have been enjoying good growth momentum.

In fact, the company is streamlining its videoconferencing hardware business to concentrate on the new cloud-based offerings. This will, in turn, position it well to leverage on the huge addressable market (estimated to be worth $20–$40 billion) in the near future. Based on the present industry trends and strong sales in the end-markets, including the Americas, EMEA, and Asia Pacific, the company is highly optimistic about the further growth of this business segment.
