Here's everything Google announced today: A new Android, virtual reality on YouTube, and more
(Matt Rosoff Business Insider) People were already waiting in the registration line the evening before the show started.
This week, developers from across the world are flocking to San Francisco for Google I/O 2015, Google's biggest event of the year.
At today's keynote session, Google Senior VP of Products Sundar Pichai revealed the search titan's roadmap for at least the next year.
The biggest focus was given to Android M, the new-generation version of Android, which is aimed at making the mobile operating system easier to use. Android M will also include Android Pay, the new digital wallet, and a whole bunch of improvements to app user permissions and privacy.
There was also a lot of talk of Google Photos, a new app for Apple iOS and Android that offers automatic image sorting and unlimited photo storage.
The surprise announcement of the show was an update to Google Cardboard, Google's low-cost virtual reality system, that lets it work with more phones. That came alongside the reveal of Google Jump, a system for making it easier for people to take virtual reality video and share it on YouTube.
Other announcements included:
A bevy of new tools to help developers build and monetize their apps for Android (and to a lesser extent, iOS)
New tweaks to the Google Play app store to make it easier for people to find and install apps, and a few improvements to Google Cloud Platform
