Who are the largest Trump donors? Plus a look at the money behind Biden and RFK Jr.

Banking heir Timothy Mellon continues to be the biggest single donor in the 2024 presidential race.

Mellon donated another $15 million to super PACs backing Donald Trump and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in April, bringing his total contributions this election cycle to over $50 million. He is supporting both Trump and Kennedy, donating $25 million each to Make America Great Again, a pro-Trump super PAC, and American Values 2024, a pro-Kennedy super PAC.

Trump’s campaign announced it brought in $76 million in April, outraising President Joe Biden’s $51 million, though Biden still holds a substantial cash advantage. The figures will be confirmed when the joint fundraising committees submit their quarterly filings in mid-July.

After a New York jury found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records related to payments to Stormy Daniels, his campaign said it raised a record $34.8 million in small-dollar donations. This, too, will be confirmed in the mid-July filings.

Trump’s main super PAC, Make America Great Again Inc., has raised about $110 million this election cycle, while main Biden-backing super PACs supported by LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, billionaire James Simons, George Soros, and Fred Eychaner have raised over $120 million.

In April, Make America Great Again received new donations, including $1 million from the pro-Israel group Republican Jewish Coalition and additional contributions from Robert Bigelow, a Nikki Haley donor, and Patricia Duggan, a wealthy Scientologist from Clearwater, Florida.

Trump allies also registered a new super PAC in January, Right for America, which has raised over $13 million as of the end of March, with top donors including billionaires Laura and Ike Perlmutter, a Mar-a-Lago member, joined by Trump allies Anthony Lomangino and Leandro Rizzuto Jr.

Kennedy’s campaign was bolstered by a $10 million donation from his vice-presidential pick, Nicole Shanahan, who has contributed $14.5 million to his campaign and super PACs. Wall Street hedge fund executive and co-founder of American Values 2024, Mark Gorton, donated $1 million to the pro-Kennedy super PAC in April, while Chris Rufer, a significant donor to candidates aligned with libertarian principles, including Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson in 2016, contributed $250,000.

A CBS News and YouGov poll shows Biden and Trump are virtually tied among voters nationwide and in key swing states, with Biden at 49% and Trump at 50% nationwide, and Biden at 50% and Trump at 49% in battleground states, both within the poll's margin of error.
