Lamborghini SUV to hit the road in 3 years

Lamborghini said it will be introducing an SUV to its product line by 2018 in an effort to expand its clientele.

It's coming.

Luxury automaker Automobili Lamborghini confirmed reports that it will be introducing a sports utility vehicle to its product line by 2018 in an effort to expand its clientele.

The Italian automaker added that the SUV will be manufactured in its headquarters, it said in a Wednesday release, but did not specify how much it would cost.

The company also said that the target markets for this new vehicle will be the U.S., China, the Middle East, the U.K., Germany and Russia, adding it expects to sell about 3,000 units per year, doubling "the company's current sales performance."

Lamborghini also said it will be expanding its current factory site from about 861,000 square feet to about 1.6 million square meters, as well as adding 500 new employees.

The company did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment.
