Kosher ice cream recalled in 19 states after listeria is found. People are hospitalized

All flavors of Soft Serve On The Go kosher ice cream sold in 8-ounce plastic cups have been recalled in 19 states and the District of Columbia after state testing found listeria and two people were hospitalized.

Those people were in New York and Pennsylvania, according to an FDA-posted recall notice from Brooklyn-based Real Kosher Ice Cream. Pennsylvania’s Department of Agriculture found listeria in a sample of Soft Serve On The Go.

What is listeria?

Listeria kills about 260 of the 1,600 Americans infected each year, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says. Senior citizens, pregnant women and children under 5 are the most vulnerable to listeria’s worse effects. Listeria can cause stillbirths and miscarriage. Listeria symptoms include nausea, diarrhea, high fever, severe headaches, stomachaches, stiffness, confusion and poor balance.

What should you do now?

Return the ice cream to the store where you bought it for a full refund. Or dump it.
