Kieran Tierney injury: Scotland hopeful Arsenal defender will be fit to face England in Euros showdown

Scotland are hopeful that injured defender Kieran Tierney will be fit to face England on Friday night after missing their Euro 2020 opener against the Czech Republic.

The versatile Arsenal left-back is one of his country’s most important players and would have been considered a guaranteed starter for Monday’s eagerly anticipated Group D contest on home soil at Hampden Park - Scotland’s first major tournament match for 23 years.

However, Tierney was a notable absentee from the team sheet revealed an hour before kick-off in Glasgow, with head coach Steve Clarke subsequently confirming that the former Celtic star was battling a minor, unspecified injury issue.

Scotland hope Tierney will still be fit in time for Friday’s showdown with old rivals England at Wembley.

Their final group fixture comes against Croatia - beaten 1-0 by England at the weekend - back at Hampden on Tuesday, June 22.

"Kieran picked up a little niggle in training during the week,” Clarke said before Scotland faced the Czechs.

“Not ready for this one, hopefully ready for the next one."
